The time and tariffs for the delivery of goods in containers from China increased 1.5-2 times

After a decrease in imports from China in March-April, additional demand for delivery arose in May, which increased the problem of container shortage. In June, the average waiting time for an empty container and free space on the ship increased to two weeks, and the delivery time increased by 36-50%, depending on the chosen method of transportation. Since the beginning of this month, the average delivery time of goods from China by sea + railway has increased to 55-60 days compared to May, and direct rail transportation has increased by 30 days (doubled), reports Piter.tv . Experts say the main reason for this phenomenon is an increase in demand for delivery and a lack of spare capacity. Due to the situation in the Red Sea (the lengthening of sea shipping due to the actual blocking of the Suez Canal) and the small volume of container exports from Russia, there are fewer available containers for loading in China. In response to the growth in demand in early June, the average cost of sea shipping from China to Russia increased by more than 30%, and rail tariffs increased by 40%.
