In April this year, Turkmenistan will host the opening ceremony of the Tejen–Mary section of the Ashgabat–Turkmenabat high-speed highway.
The construction of this section was carried out as part of a large-scale project to create a modern high-speed highway connecting the capital of the country with the city of Turkmenabat.
According to official sources, the new section of the highway will meet the highest safety and quality standards. The estimated speed on the motorway will be 130 km/h. The highway is equipped with multi-level transport interchanges, aboveground and underground pedestrian crossings, a video surveillance system and weather stations.
The commissioning of the Tejen–Mary section will be an important stage in the implementation of a major infrastructure project for the construction of the Ashgabat–Turkmenabat high-speed highway with a length of 600 km. It is designed to increase the mobility of the population, accelerate freight transportation, and ensure closer integration of the country's regions.
The first section of the highway, the Ashgabat-Tejen section, was put into operation on October 29, 2021. The total cost of the project is 2.3 billion US dollars.
