Pakistan is preparing a Transit trade agreement with Turkmenistan

The Ministry of Commerce of Pakistan has been recommended to accelerate the signing of a transit trade agreement with Turkmenistan, Business Recorder (Pakistan) reports.


This was discussed during the interdepartmental meeting. The Secretary of the Ministry of Economy of Pakistan stressed the urgency of signing this document and offered to provide an updated status within two weeks.


The article says that the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Pakistan was reminded of Turkmenistan's pending response regarding the draft Transit Agreement.


In addition, the Ministry of Maritime Affairs of Pakistan was instructed to prepare a report for approval by the Cabinet of Ministers of the Memorandum of Understanding on Twinning Relations between the port of Gwadar and the port of Turkmenbashi.


According to Daryo, in addition to the transnational gas pipeline, the two countries are promoting the implementation of regional infrastructure projects through Afghanistan, including a power transmission line and a fiber–optic cable.


Last year, supplies of liquefied natural gas from Turkmenistan to Pakistan began through the Afghan province of Kandahar. This South Asian country is experiencing an acute shortage of fuel and is seeking to diversify its supplies, which were previously carried out mainly from Iran.
