Chairman of the Halk Maslahaty of Turkmenistan gave an interview to Euronews

The national Leader of the Turkmen people, Chairman of the Halk Maslahaty of Turkmenistan Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedov recently answered questions from Loro Bakvelli, correspondent of the reputable Euronews television company. During the interview, key issues of Turkmenistan's domestic and foreign policy were touched upon, TDH writes. Hero-Arkadag stressed that neutrality is the basis of Turkmenistan's foreign policy. Speaking about the situation between Russia and Ukraine, he noted that the country adheres to three main positions: maintaining political neutrality recognized by the UN; resolving interstate disputes solely on the basis of the UN Charter; and non-acceptance of the use of force in international relations. Special attention in the interview was paid to water problems in Central Asia. Chairman Halk Maslahaty proposed the establishment of a Regional Council on Water Management and advocated the adoption of the UN Conventions on the Amu Darya and Syr Darya Rivers. Touching upon relations with Afghanistan, Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedov noted that Turkmenistan is implementing a number of important economic projects with the participation of the neighboring country, including the Turkmenistan–Afghanistan–Pakistan–India gas pipeline and the construction of railways. Regarding cooperation with the European Union, Hero-Arkadag stated Turkmenistan's readiness to supply natural gas to Europe, including through the trans-Caspian route. He also announced the construction of a 1,574 megawatt power plant on the Caspian coast and expressed interest in exporting electricity. On the eve of the first Central Asia–European Union Summit, Berdimuhamedov expressed hope for establishing an equal, strategic and active dialogue, stressing that cooperation should be long-term, constructive, comprehensive and concrete.
