The agreement between the Iraqi Ministry of Energy and Turkmenistan on gas supplies will cover 50% of Iraqi power plants' fuel needs, nCa reports with reference to the Iraqi News Agency (INA). As noted, the Iraqi Ministry of Energy is in the process of completing financial procedures related to the transfer of funds to the Turkmen side. According to the representative of the ministry, Ahmed Musa, the supply of Turkmen gas will begin after the completion of settlements. The gas exported from Turkmenistan will cover about 50% of the needs of gas power plants. Iraq is currently facing a gas shortage, which is affecting its electricity production. To solve the problem, the government plans to import 20 million cubic meters of gas per day from Turkmenistan and get the rest from Iran. The agreement with Turkmenistan on gas swaps via Iran is a key step in this diversification, the source notes.
