The increase in the cost of shipping containers from China: In July, rates increased by 7%

The rates for the transportation of containers from China to Moscow by rail have increased by more than 50% since the beginning of the year. In July, the cost of transporting a 40-foot container on the Xi'an – Moscow route increased by 7% by June, to more than $7 thousand. On routes from Shanghai and Guangzhou, the price increased by 3-7% to more than $8 thousand. Rates continue to rise, although at a slower pace than in June, Kommersant reports based on data from the Center for Price Indices (CCI). The rate for the rail shipment of containers from the Far East that arrived there by sea increased by 14% in July, to ₽295 thousand for a 40-foot container. The UCI expects growth in August as well. The cost of shipping containers from Chinese ports to the Far Eastern ports of the Russian Federation increased by 11-31%, to $2.2-4.8 thousand, depending on the route and type of container. The coastal and domestic terminals of the Far East have stopped coping with the incoming flow of containers from China, many warehouses are more than 95% full. The problem also affected border crossings.
