On July 21, Iran sent a freight train to China through the territory of Turkmenistan. The 10,297 km route to northwest China will take two weeks, which is twice as fast as shipping by sea.

The train departed from the depot at Iran's largest dry port, Aprin, located in Eslamshahr, Tehran province, and headed to Incheburun station on the border with Turkmenistan. It is carrying dozens of containers and will travel through Turkmenistan to Altynkol Station in Kazakhstan before reaching its final destination in Yiwu, China.

Iran's Vice President of Trade and Railway Operations Morteza Jafari said at the opening ceremony of the regular service on Sunday that trains will depart once a week on both sides, with a subsequent increase in frequency to one train per day, according to Iran's Press TV.

This route, known as the Middle Corridor, is attracting significant attention from many countries.

Recently, Russia, Kazakhstan, Turkmenistan and Iran signed a roadmap for the synchronous development of the potential of the eastern route of the international North-South transport corridor for 2024-2025.
