Tajikistan and Turkmenistan are developing a multimodal corridor to Europe

Minister of Transport of Tajikistan Azim Ibrokhim instructed the relevant departments to organize a pilot railway train along the multimodal corridor “China – Tajikistan – Uzbekistan – Turkmenistan – Iran – Turkey – Europe,” the ministry’s press center reports, Trend reports.

The minister also pointed to the need to update railway cars and locomotives, intensify work on the digitalization of the industry, build logistics centers, including the Iranian port of Chabahar, increase the volume and quality of freight and passenger transportation, as well as the construction of new transit railway lines.

At the negotiations between the presidents of Turkmenistan and Tajikistan, Serdar Berdimuhamedov and Emomali Rahmon, held in Dushanbe in May 2023, the transport sector was highlighted as a priority area of ​​bilateral cooperation. Particular attention was paid to increasing efficiency and creating new international transport corridors, including the multimodal corridor “China – Tajikistan – Uzbekistan – Turkmenistan – Iran – Turkey”.

Effective use of transport potential also became the key topic of the first Turkmenistan - Tajikistan - Uzbekistan summit, held in Ashgabat in August 2023.
