10.07.2024

The CTS service estimated the May volume of the global container market at 15.94 million TEU – this is a new record, higher even than the peaks of 2021 and 2022.

At the same time, the rate index, reflecting the dynamics of both the spot and contract markets, increased by 6 points to 89 points over the month. This is more than half the level of the crisis peak, but rates have significantly recovered from levels below 70 at the end of last year.

Compared to the pandemic year 2019, European and North American exports remain in the red: -10% and -14%, respectively. The volume of container exports from Asia is 14% higher than in 2019, compared to the level a year earlier, the increase was 7%.
