Iran intends to produce 1.7 million cars per year

10.07.2024

Iranian Industry Minister Abbas Aliabadi said that car production in the country will reach 1.7 million units in the current calendar year, which will end on March 20, 2025, Trend reports.

Aliabadi noted that Iranian automobile companies produced a total of 1.335 million vehicles in the calendar year to March 2024.

The Minister stressed that the steady growth in domestic production has allowed Iran to rise from 18th place in the world ranking of countries in terms of the number of cars produced annually over the past two years.

If production targets are met, Iran will become the 15th largest car manufacturer in the world. The number of jobs in the Iranian automotive industry has reached 0.9 million, and this sector now accounts for 12% of the added value in the country's economy. Iran has focused on increasing domestic car production instead of imports to meet growing demand amid sanctions that have changed import priorities.
