Russia's dispatch of the first two coal trains to India via the International North-South Transport Corridor (INSTC) through the territory of Central Asian countries and Iran marks the beginning of a new stage in the operation of this route, which is strategically important for the South Asian republic. This is reported by The Economic Times newspaper in an article titled "Train from Russia: how a new route can change the situation in India." The INSTC corridor, which is considered as an alternative to the trade route through the Suez Canal, opens up an effective and easy way for India to Iran, Russia, Azerbaijan, the Baltic States and Europe, and not only to 11 Central Asian states, the newspaper writes. In this regard, INSTC, which runs from St. Petersburg to Mumbai, "may become the most important geostrategic tool that India needs."
