New, increased tolls on Dutch highways are planned for 2026. The estimated average rate is 15 cents per km, but environmentalists are already proposing to double it to 30 cents per km. In their opinion, this will allow to influence carriers and force them to monitor emissions into the atmosphere. The proposal was made by the environmental organization Natuur & Milieu. Its representatives believe that such an increase in payment will force carriers to reconsider their plans regarding the use of the fleet and reduce empty runs. High pay will allow you to plan more efficiently, which will certainly have a positive impact on the environment. In defense of their opinion, representatives of the company cite the example of Germany. In this country, at the end of 2023, the toll on the highways will be 35 cents per km. Transport companies, in response to environmentalists' statements, say that empty mileage is a common problem in the industry. And it will not be possible to solve it only by increasing the fare, in this case an integrated approach is needed.
