President of Turkmenistan Serdar Berdimuhamedov held a meeting with the Minister of Energy and Natural Resources of the Republic of Turkey, Alparslan Bayraktar, who arrived in the country to participate in the International Conference “International Year of Peace and Trust: The Role of Interregional Economic Cooperation in Ensuring Sustainable Development,” TDH reports.
During the meeting, Bayraktar conveyed greetings from the President of Turkey, Recep Tayyip Erdoğan, and emphasized Turkey’s great importance on strengthening cooperation with Turkmenistan.
President Serdar Berdimuhamedov expressed confidence that the outcomes of the international forum would provide momentum for expanding interstate cooperation in the energy sector.
Both sides highlighted that Turkmen-Turkish relations serve as a foundation for the successful implementation of priority tasks in political, economic, and cultural-humanitarian spheres. Currently, Turkey is one of Turkmenistan's largest trade and economic partners.
The President confirmed Turkmenistan's readiness to further enhance its partnership with Turkey in the energy field. One of the key issues discussed was the supply of Turkmen gas to Turkey and beyond to other interested countries.
The President also noted that the construction of a combined-cycle power plant would enable the export of Turkmen electricity across the Caspian Sea to neighboring countries, including Turkey.
At the conclusion of the meeting, both sides expressed confidence in the continued successful development of interstate cooperation for the benefit of the two fraternal nations.
