Production of dry cargo ships with a carrying capacity of 6100 tons started in Turkmenistan

In Turkmenistan, a ceremonial keel-laying ceremony for the first dry cargo ship took place at the Balkan Shipbuilding and Ship Repair Plant. The event, held on January 6, 2025, was attended by representatives of the shipyard's management and the South Korean company Koryo Shipbuilding Industry Technology Co., Ltd., reports balkanshipyard.com.tm.
The construction is being carried out under an agreement signed on September 13, 2023, for the construction of two dry cargo ships with a carrying capacity of 6100 tons. The contract is being implemented in accordance with Decree No. 680 "On the construction of dry cargo ships" and is aimed at developing the country's transport infrastructure.
The first construction works began in August 2024, and by November, the first blocks of the ships under construction were delivered to the shipyard. The project is being carried out with the technological assistance of South Korean specialists and is part of the large-scale program of the President of Turkmenistan for the development of maritime and river transport, as well as the shipbuilding industry of the country.
