Starting in 2025, Russian authorities will implement new regulations for transporting timber, requiring all freight carriers, including those from Turkmenistan, to install satellite navigation equipment.
The innovation applies to all vehicles transporting timber within the Russian Federation or transiting to third countries through Russian territory.
According to the order from the Ministry of Natural Resources of the Russian Federation, vehicles must be equipped with "GLONASS/ERA-GLONASS" devices and a personal universal identification card. Navigation data will be transmitted to the state information system "ERA-GLONASS," enabling real-time monitoring of transport routes.
Additional requirements have been introduced for foreign carriers, including Turkmen operators. These include establishing branches in Russia and registering with the Unified Identification and Authentication System (ESIA). Non-compliance with the new rules will result in administrative penalties starting January 1, 2025.
The regulation applies to road transport carrying timber and its processed products, as classified under item 86-1 of the All-Russian Product Classifier.
