President Serdar Berdimuhamedov of Turkmenistan has pardoned 276 individuals convicted of various crimes but who have expressed remorse and sincere repentance, according to the "Vatan" news program on Turkmen television.
The corresponding decree was signed today during an extended meeting of the Cabinet of Ministers, attended by the heads of diplomatic missions abroad. The decree, issued "guided by principles of mercy and humanity," aims to "further strengthen the unity and cohesion of Turkmen society and each family," in honor of International Neutrality Day, celebrated annually on December 12.
The pardoned individuals have been released from serving the remainder of their prison sentences.
Addressing the Chairman of the Commission for Citizenship and Clemency Proposals under the President of Turkmenistan, Begench Gundogdyev, the head of state instructed him to work with law enforcement authorities to ensure that all those released from detention return to their families as soon as possible.
President Serdar Berdimuhamedov wished the pardoned citizens to work diligently, serve their homeland honestly, and enjoy the fruits of their labor.
