The Minister of Foreign Affairs of Turkmenistan and the Secretary General of the International Road Transport Union (IRU) discussed cooperation in 2025

On November 26, Minister of Foreign Affairs Rashid Meredov and Secretary General of the International Road Transport Union (IRU) Umberto de Pretto, who arrived in Ashgabat on a working visit, held a meeting. The parties noted the significance of the two-day International Conference and Exhibition "International Transport and Transit Corridors: Connectivity and Development – 2024" (ITTC-2024), which started in Ashgabat, coinciding with World Sustainable Transport Day. Focusing on the long-standing positive experience of cooperation between Turkmenistan and the IRU, including the implementation of mechanisms to simplify transit customs procedures and accelerate cargo flows, the interlocutors discussed opportunities to strengthen cooperation in 2025, declared by the UN General Assembly as the International Year of Peace and Trust, particularly within the framework of Turkmenistan's Chairmanship in the Special Program for the Economies of Central Asia (SPECA). The parties agreed to continue cooperation within multilateral formats, including the development of the legal framework for interaction, according to the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Turkmenistan.
